The Technological Institute of Industrial Mathematics (ITMATI), formed by the three Galician universities, located in Campus Vida of the University of Santiago, and with a staff composed by more than 100 people, has completed a successful five years career. Since its creation has developed around 60 projects in several sectors such as energy, materials, naval or environment.

ITMATI’s turnover since its creation amounts to 4.502.120,35 €. During 2017, it has obtained a turnover (without VAT) of 1.585.513,83 €, of which 89.37% has been acquired through contracts and competitive transfer projects, with an increase in its revenue of 41.91% compared to the previous year. The economic results of the Centre indicate that it will be self-sustainable in the medium term, so that its budget can be based mainly in private financing or obtained through competitive projects.

ITMATI works training young people. Since its creation has collaborated in the development of 15 doctoral theses. Moreover, within the framework of the agreements with the Master in Industrial Mathematics and the Master in Statistical Techniques, interuniversity masters, 9 master’s degree projects have been submitted and 13 students of Galician universities have done internships in the Centre. In this way, it contributes to improve the early labour insertion in jobs related to their qualifications, and to facilitate the integration of their researchers into companies or other technological centres.

The Institute has launched several initiatives to foster its internationalisation, in order to become a centre of international reference. In this sense, it has participated in a total of 10 international contracts and projects, of which 3 are European projects – in which participate more than 20 companies – and 7 contracts with international entities and companies. Its international turnover in 2017 has represented 27.72% of the total turnover of the Centre, a very significant increase compared to previous years.
