The research project "Data Assimilation for its integration into programming models of wildfires" is directed by Professor José Manuel Cascón and has earned the highest score in the last round of research projects funded by the Ministry Education.

Professor Luis Ferragut has been working for the past years in the development of a model that transforms orographic, climatic and botanical data in numbers to be used in equations and algorithms. This will allow to know in advance the evolution of forest fires, so that real time information can be provided to firefighting teams deployed in areas that are being devastated by fire, so that they can act when flames have failed to perform, i.e. firewalls or evacuate populations near the front of the fire.
