The Port Project Green Energy Center (GPEC) is a pioneering global system, developed by Galician researchers, to reduce emissions from the ships moored in the harbor. The system provides electrical and thermal energy while the ships are moored, thereby reducing carbon footprint and costs. The project involved the companies Internaco, Key Plan, Vicus DT, Inabensa, Emenasa and Inova and research organizations like Campus del Mar, Mathematical Institute of Industrial Technology (ITMATI) and Apet. The project lasts for three years and has a grant under ERDF aid Innterconecta EU.
