From June 30 to July 4, 2014 the First Joint Conference between the Italian Mathematical Union (UMI), the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society (RSME), the Catalan Society for Mathematics (SCM), the Spanish Society of Applied Mathematics (SEMA) and the Italian Society for Applied and Industrial Mathematics (SIMAI), a scientific meeting sponsored by the European Mathematical Society (EMS) is held at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Basque Country EHU/UPV.

As part of this Conference, ITMATI promoter Alfredo Varela López Bermúdez de Castro, explained the capabilities and work of ITMATI for the years 2013 and 2014. At the roundtable that was held on July 2 the discussion dealt with how industrial mathematics are increasingly close to companies in order to make them globally competitive. Also how structures like ITMATI encourage the use of advanced mathematical technology to contribute decisively to add value in many sectors of economic activity and in many fields such as quality control, simulation and optimization of industrial processes or management and resource planning.
